CENTRAL AVE. GENERATING FACILITY

Versorium Energy Ltd. is proposing to develop the Central Ave. Generating Facility (the Project), a 31 MW natural gas-fired power generation project in the City of Thunder Bay.

The Project would be located at the intersection of Central Ave. and Maureen St. on industrial zoned land.

The Project is comprised of:

  • Four Jenbacher J624 natural gas engines, each with a nominal capacity of 4.5 MW;

  • Four Jenbacher J620 natural gas engines, each with a nominal capacity of 3.3 MW;

  • Two electrical e-house buildings housing the Project's electrical switchgear;

  • Two step-up transformers;

  • Thermal hot water storage tank and pipeline to deliver heat to Canada Malting Co. Ltd.; and

  • Connections to the existing electrical distribution and natural gas distribution systems.

Project Update

In November 2025, Versorium advised area stakeholders and the City of Thunder Bay of its plan to defer the Project to the IESO's next LT2 procurement window, which is expected to open in 2026. Versorium identified a need to refine the Project's design to fit within a smaller footprint on the proposed leased parcel. These refinements require additional technical work and subsequent commercial negotiations that cannot be completed prior to the IESO LT2 bid deadline in December 2025. This is the primary reason for our decision to defer the Project.

Versorium remains committed to exploring energy development opportunities in Thunder Bay and we thank stakeholders, the City of Thunder Bay and the broader community for their thoughtful feedback to-date.
